El OBJETIVO de la EDUCACIÓN (Spanish & English)

¿Qué tema? Tal vez éste no sea un tema tan complicado como el cómo lograrlo. Quiero creer que podemos estar de acuerdo acerca de lo esencial en la educación básica. La Nueva Ley de Educación Nacional de la República Argentina afirma que "la educación primaria tiene como objetivo fundamental garantizar el aprendizaje de los niños posibilitando la educación integral en el desarrollo de todas las dimensiones de su persona..." A su vez, la Ley Federal de Educación de los EE.UU. afirma que el objetivo de la educación es "... preparar a los niños para ser ciudadanos responsables..." Creo que no vamos a discutir acerca del hecho de que se trata esencialmente del aprendizaje, y podemos cuestionar y tener muchas opiniones acerca del cómo se logra el aprendizaje. Por otro lado podemos cuestionar si aprender a leer, escribir, la matemática y tener las habilidades básicas de computación es suficiente para formar "ciudadanos responsables".

Dado el tema de este blog me quedaría entonces con el aspecto que la educación sea integral y que desarrolle todas las dimensiones de la persona para formar ciudadanos responsables, un verdadero desafío. Al respecto, deseo concentrarme por ahora en una dimensión que siempre aparece en la educación básica y en todas las latitudes, que es el comportamiento en el aula y en la escuela en general. Estoy seguro que durante el período de formación del docente, se invierte poco tiempo en analizar formalmente el tema del comportamiento y como manejarlo. Si hay ejemplos, en caso contrario, me interesaría mucho saberlo...

The Objective of Basic Education

This for the most part should be pretty clear, at least with regard to the essentials. The question is how to achieve it. The new Law of National Education (of Argentina), enacted in 2008 states that "primary education has the fundamental aim of guarantying the learning process of the children thereby facilitating a comprehensive education in the development of the whole person...". On the otherhand, the Federal Law of Education of the USA mentions that the objective of education is among other things "...to prepare the children to be responsible citizens..."
We probably have little doubt regarding the learning as essential to the process and may have different opinions about how to achieve it. However, we might certainly question whether learning to read, write, apply math, as well as basic computer skills is sufficient to form "responsible citizens".
Given the theme of this blog, my specific interest is that the education be comprehensive and that it develop all the dimensions of the person to form responsible citizens of the world. A matter that is common to all latitudes and all schools is that of discipline in the school and the classroom. It would seem that in teachers training little formal time is given to this complex matter. Some countries are certainly more advanced than others with regard to the formal analysis of the question during training, it would be good to learn of these experiences...
